For the vehicle owner, an Electronic Control Unit remap means much better performance and control, reprogramming your ECU control unit with Engine Management Software (EMS) developed by CorsaTec will improve throttle response, and provide an improvement in torque and horsepower. Speed limitations can also be removed, custom Rev-Limit levels can be adjusted, as well as custom programming for aftermarket exhaust systems allowing the vehicle to run without any check engine light (CEL) warnings or fault codes.

As well as receiving all these performance benefits the fuel economy of the vehicle is also usually improved. This is all achieved by fine-tuning the spark advance and trimming the fuel delivery to its optimum level. Countless hours of road, track and engine dynamometer testing is involved in order to create the EMS offered for your vehicle. Most ECU's can be modified using the vehicle diagnostic port, this means that there is no physical sign of alteration and therefore your warranty remains intact.

There are many companies on the market that are offering plug-in tuning boxes (piggy-back control units), however when trying to gain better performance from your engine, a full remap is irrefutably the better option. A tuning box sends false sensor values throughout the complete rev-range. This tells the ECU that there is not enough fuel entering the engine, the ECU then over-fuels in order to gain performance. Although performance gains are made with a plug-in tuning box, they are at the cost of high emissions, higher engine temperatures, and general abuse of the engine. This may result in poor running, black smoke emitting from the exhaust, clogged injectors, rough idle, and engine cut-out. Also over fuelling can result in bore washing which will dramatically reduce the life of any engine.

A full remap will take into account all factors and will deliver much smoother performance with much better gains and again the key thing is this is all dealt with in a completely safe way.
